Dead Man's Bones

by Susan Wittig Albert

I've mentioned before how Ruby is my favorite character in this China Bayles mystery series.  In Dead Man's Bones, she is leading lady of Pecan Springs' little theatre grand opening.  The first night of the play ends with a bang, literally, when a local man is shot and killed.  Meanwhile, just outside of town, China's son, Brian, is helping with an archaeological dig and discovers a skeleton.  At first, the historians think it must be an ancient American Indian.  Then they realize the death happened much more recently.  Our heroine has her hands full recovering clues in both deaths while helping her son cope with his alarming find.  This author is a complete genius when it comes to intertwining everyday life with a murder mystery.  I love this series so much!
