Mourning Gloria

by Susan Wittig Albert

Another book in the China Bayles mystery series.  This one is set in the familiar but fictional town of Pecan Springs, Texas.  I have become very fond of the eclectic cast who live there.  Mourning Gloria centers around our heroine, China Bayles, and is somewhat gruesome for Wittig's works.  I like that the author normally skims over the crime with minimal description and focuses more on the mind game of discovering clues.  The book begins with an arson / homicide, but also very quickly into the plot, a young intern for the local newspaper goes missing.  China races to figure out where the college student might be, worried something sinister has happened.  This author keeps me hooked, but I am getting better at narrowing down her suspects.  Sometimes I can catch "The Bad Guy" myself.  I heartily recommend every China Bayles book I've read so far!

  1. It sounds like Mourning Gloria delves into some intriguing mysteries and keeps readers on their toes with its suspenseful plot. I appreciate when authors focus more on the intricacies of the investigation rather than dwelling too much on the graphic details of the crime. As for my reading, I've been exploring a mix of fiction and non-fiction lately, diving into various genres to keep things interesting. How about you? Any book recommendations?
