The Last Chance Olive Ranch
by Susan Wittig Albert
There are multiple crimes in this story line.
Leading man, Mike McQuaid, has been contacted by old friends from his Houston PD detective days with a warning. A murderer Mike put away has escaped prison and is out for revenge. McQuaid gets his wife, China Bayles, and their adopted daughter out of town. Then he devises a plan to be bait for capturing the vindictive killer but is stunned when the criminal grabs a bargaining chip of his own.
Meanwhile, our resourceful heroine, China, is reluctant to leave her husband's side. Family convinces her to keep her plans of teaching a weekend workshop with her best friend, Ruby, at the Last Chance Olive Ranch. One of their colleagues, Maddie, has inherited the ranch. She is in a pinch, though, as the will giving her the property is being contested. A suspicious fire appears to be set for both Maddie's lifelong supporter and for China Bayles.
This mystery kept me on the edge of my seat as the two stories unfolded. Another fast paced piece of writing by this author that I loved.
