Widow's Tears

 by Susan Wittig Albert

For this book, we are bouncing between two locations and two different periods of time.  The story centers around Ruby, my favorite character in the China Bayles mystery series.  When a childhood friend asks for help, Ruby is torn between her responsibilities in Pecan Springs and solving a frightening secret from her pre-teen years at nearby Blackwood House.  The second story line surrounds the Blackwood Family and events that took place during the catastrophic Galveston Hurricane in 1900.  As Ruby and her lifelong friend sort through clues, tea is spilled back in Pecan Springs, bringing China Bayles to the stomping grounds of Ruby's youth.  Tropical Storm Amanda arrives at Blackwood House at the same time as China, knocking out the electricity.

Widow's Tears is an excellent ghost story and I absolutely loved it.  What have you been reading?
