Hemlock
by Susan Wittig Albert
The last book in this series, for now. I have pre-ordered the next one, Forget Me Never and anxiously await its arrival.
Once again, this author is not only entertaining but very informative. The setting for Hemlock is a haunted mansion in South Carolina. There are two story lines from two time periods woven together. One is leading lady, China Bayles, being asked to discreetly solve the mystery of a missing and very valuable copy of A Curious Herbal by Elizabeth Blackwell. Our heroine is hot on the trail when she discovers the body of a local book dealer right after he's been shot. Shortly after the shooting, another death is discovered in what appears to be a suicide. Yikes! The second story line surrounds Elizabeth Blackwell and her life in the 1730's. After her husband is arrested and sent to prison, she is looking for options to support herself and their two children.
This book is another wonderful blend of cozy herb lore, mystery and ghostly bumps in the night. I loved it!
