DIY Seed Packets for Zinnias
Seeds on their own really aren't very pretty. Packaging is important! So, here we are!
(This ain't my first rodeo! Did you notice my post DIY Seed Packets for Hollyhocks?)
(Supplies were all from my stash except the digital cut file.)
Digital Cut File for an Envelope
68 lb Paper
Various Watercolors
Paintbrushes
Black Micron Pen
Zinnia Seeds
This digital cut file cost 99 cents but was definitely worth it! My cutting machine did all the heavy lifting on the individual envelopes.
The paper is from a drawing pad gifted to me last Christmas. It is 68 lbs, has a nice texture, and happens to be 9 inches by 12 inches. The digital file was sized so four envelopes were cut per sheet of paper with minimal waste.
A straight edge helped me get nice clean folds. It was important for me to see the boundaries before beginning my design.
Each center panel was given a quick swish of turquoise watercolor. Now for the fun part! Adding flowers!
How cute is this little gourd from my garden?!
Any time I am attempting to draw a round flower, I begin by drawing a circle. This helps me keep the petals in proportion. Zinnias are not perfectly round, so this darling "pumpkin" is my little assistant.
A smaller circle is needed for the center. A coin works perfectly! From here, each zinnia seed packet found its own way. I wanted to honor the wonderful diversity from my bouquets.
Micron 01 pen in black is being used to give details to the center,
and petals.
The same pen was used for the labels.
Doubles as well as singles were drawn, then filled with pink and red watercolors. Each DIY Seed Packet for Zinnias is unique. I'm excited share a small piece of my garden with family and friends for Christmas!
What gifts do you enjoy sending with your Christmas cards?
