Simple DIY Garland
'Such a fun and quick project!
Let me preface this post by saying that I enjoy lots of different hot teas as well as simmer pots. Anytime a lemon or lime is juiced, the peel is saved in our freezer. The same thing happens when we are eating oranges. The pith is tossed, but peels are popped into our freezer for later use.
The inspiration for this post comes from Crazy Crochet Helen, who I follow on Instagram. She frequently says, "I just want to play." How sweet is that?!
Helen created her garland for Christmas, but I think it could be done any time of year!
Items Needed:
Orange Peel from 3 Oranges
Small Cookie Cutter(s)
Needle
Embroidery Floss or Twine
Even though cookie cutters abound, only a couple were small enough for this project. It's hard to say how old this Tupperware one might be.
Thankfully, there are two sides which worked perfectly for my simple DIY garland!
Simply place the orange peel as flat as possible on a hard surface and cut out your desired shapes. Pressing into the white side gave me sharper edges. My kitchen smelled lovely!
Once I had cut enough pieces, they were placed between two paper towels with a box of crackers on top to flatten them.
Using a cross-stitch needle, the darling shapes were threaded onto a length of green embroidery floss.
The simple things that make me smile!
