Male Rose Breasted Grosbeak

This handsome fellow allowed me to approach surprisingly close.

He is sitting on an elderberry tree branch right behind a clump of elder flowers about to burst open.  Their fragrance is heavenly!

Our labrador walked right beneath his branch, but the Rose Breasted Grosbeak didn't seem concerned at all.

Maybe he thinks he's hiding?  I hope he is not injured.
